Our plans for maternity leave.

I say 'our' because these plans include all of us, not just myself. As of the 3rd of May I officially start my maternity leave and I am so excited, even though I have had a couple of weeks holiday prior to the official start date I can now fully relax in to having a lengthy time off with all my boys.

People keep asking me what I plan on doing with my time off and all I can respond with is 'spend time with my babies'. That is my only priority whilst taking my maternity leave, spending as much time as I can with my little boys. Going back to work after having Charlie hit me really hard, I missed him desperately every day and felt like I was missing out on key development stages in his life, it was hard leaving him but knowing he was in safe hands helped. Having to go back to work after I have this baby already makes me feel sad, but it also makes me cherish the time that I will have off with my boys and make the most out of every second with them.

Because baby no.2 is going to be born after the 5th of April 2015 we are eligible to share the 52 weeks of leave between us. I think this is a great step in the direction of equality between parents and if we could afford for Ben to take the time off, it is definitely something we would take advantage of. Unfortunately as he is the main wage earner in our house, the drop of his income to the ShPP would not work for our family.

We all have so much to look forward to in the next 12 months, from the boys generally developing quickly and becoming little people to holidays and parties, being able to make the most of my time with them and my family will be amazing.

Although, there does seem to be this little cloud that is currently hanging over me. My previous experience of PND and anxiety. Being back at work helped my anxiety in a way I could never of imagined, it pushed me in to situations that helped me get back to being more 'me'. Having all of this time off ahead of me, I worry that it will be easy to fall back in to my bubble of anxiety which is still something I battle with daily. At least by being able to recognise the signs easier, I will be able to prevent it getting to the stage I was before.

But overall our plans for maternity leave are to enjoy spending our days together, and who wouldn't want to spend their days with this little cutie?
